I would like to make early mediavel (8. - 10. century) east/nomad shield. I know only little about it - I know only two related archeological finds /picture 1 and 2/ Both are circular or eliptical, from planks and without umbo. Shield from Ajmyrlyg is compound only from wood, shield from mount Mug is/according to my opinion/ covered by leather/textile and with painting. Do you know anything more about east shields and mainly about handle of this shields? It is particular problem. Is it any type of central grip, or rather forearm type like later knight "kite" shields? Or any other possibilities? About handle I know anly one picture /pic 3/, where is depicted central grip probably without umbo.
Picture 1 - Shield from kurgan Ajmyrlyg III, Tuva, Altaj mountains - wooden planks with wooden rib

Picture 2 Shield from mount Mug

Picture 3 Detail from vessel from Verchnoe Nildino, central Asia, 7-9. c., central grip of relatively little circular shield
